Designing Cisco Data Center Infrastructure (DCID)

Course Overview

In this Designing Cisco Data Center Infrastructure course provides a comprehensive architectural and design-focused view of modern Cisco data center technologies, covering high availability, scalability, security, storage, compute, and automation across enterprise environments. It begins with foundational design principles for Layer 2 and Layer 3 resiliency, including virtual port channels, first-hop redundancy protocols, and optimized routing strategies, then expands into data center topology design, traffic flow analysis, and redundancy models such as spine-and-leaf. Advanced interconnect and mobility technologies—including Cisco OTV, LISP, and VXLAN with EVPN—are explored to illustrate how modern overlays enable scalable, flexible, and resilient multi–data center and virtualized deployments.

The course further examines hardware and device virtualization, Cisco FEX architectures, and integrated security models ranging from basic threat mitigation to advanced TrustSec and firewall designs. Storage technologies are addressed in depth, including Fibre Channel, FCoE, SAN security, and orchestration, alongside management platforms such as Cisco DCNM, Cisco UCS Manager, Cisco UCS Director, and Cisco Intersight. Compute and hyperconverged solutions are covered through Cisco UCS and Cisco HyperFlex architectures, emphasizing stateless computing, service profiles, policies, pools, and templates. The curriculum concludes with data center automation and programmability, focusing on model-driven APIs, Python, Ansible, and infrastructure orchestration, while hands-on labs reinforce real-world design validation and operational understanding across the full Cisco data center stack.
